    This year’s annual gait letting auction will take place on Wednesday 18th February 2026 at 6:30pm at The Chapel, Sutton-on-Trent Methodist Community Centre.

    Description

    A “Gait” provides the right to graze an animal on the communal Holme. This letting provides the opportunity to rent these gaits for the annual grazing season. For example, if you rent 20 gaits for the Sutton Holme, you are permitted to graze 20 head of cattle on the Holme for the season.

    Stocking Dates

    Sutton & Girton: 16th April 2026 – 1st November 2026
    Normanton: 23rd April 2026 – 1st November 2026

    The penalty for stocking beyond the stocking dates is £1 per day per animal.

    Stocking Rules

    • The appropriate number of livestock to match your Gait rental invoice
    • Cattle passports and sheep movement licences are to be provided to Will Barker & Co
    • All stock coming on to the Holmes must be pre movement TB tested no more than 60 days before the stocking date
    • No sub-letting
